A Cykic Review "Back to Life, Back to Reality"

I must admit, Balenciaga went halfsies for me.  Nicolas Ghesquière's futuristic references seemed far off onto another planet called "Been There Done That". But let's begin on a good note. The beautifully constructed outerwear caught my eye immediately.  The elevated shoulders brought me back to past collections in which a singular neoprene sweater had me rapidly searching the web, lets just say I never found it. The a-line skirts were excellent basics, but paired with the satin sweatshirts had me torn.  The Jetsons, Back to the Future, one or the other I just kept thinking; vintage screen prints on satin. meh. The astronaunt pants just needed three stripes to reinterpret Adidas, which was not a good thing. And I'm sorry to say the chiffon, metallic, Barberella dresses appeared cheap and unflattering.  

Maybe the styling threw me off, but I couldn't get a handle on Nicolas Ghesquière's vision. Even when I read Nicole Phelp's review on Style.com I was perplexed. "Ghesquière was the chairman of the board and the models his employees—both literally and metaphorically," wrote Phelp's.

I don't get it.

A Cykic Review "Love at First Sight"

I have no words. Okay that's a lie, I always have something to say. Proenza Schouler had me tearing up, literally. The red textured woven leather, the wide (what looked to be a textured linen) legged pants, the embroidered brocade, gold hints of metallic, navy quilted fencing coats, sea foam green silk letter-men jackets with baby hummingbirds, and brown pony hair clutches...need I say more? I was sensing a Nicolas Ghesquiére vibe, but it was still very much the Proenza girl that every season I want to be.

Like a Downtown Balenciaga

Proenza Schouler 2012 Pre-Fall collection reminds me a bit of Nicolas Ghesquière's Balenciaga.

Mostly based on the structure of certain silhouettes.

But all and all it's still very much in the line of the Proenza girl I strive to be.

I hope to see these looks in the retail space...

It tends to always be love at first sight.

Cristo-fying Urbanity

According to Nicole Phelps, the Balenciaga show was a bit of a "bench brouhaha" with multiple seats coLLapsing, resulting in a standing room only venue.  After reading the review the brouhaha was quickly erased by the iridescent sculpted eerie simplicity. Nicolas Ghesquière can do NO wrong.

I dare you to give me an example when Ghesquière screwed up...
